Creativity as Intellectual Property: How do you own what you create?
Why is intellectual property so important? In the United States, 97% of all employment comes from small businesses. If we just count the employers with 20 or less employees, it is 89% of all employment in this country. Small businesses only exist because of their intellectual property. There are four basic intellectual property rights: Copyright, Trademarks, Patents and Trade Secrets. Each property right protects certain types of creations of the mind. How do you protect a creation? Where do you start? How is it protected? During this session, learn how each of the four different intellectual property rights protect creations of the mind.

Healthcare - Beyond the Bedside
According to Jack Zenger, a leadership consultant and researcher, people are not receiving leadership training until the age of 42, even though the expectation is that they get leadership training in their 20’s. Premier Health’s organizational development department is committed to closing this gap by providing an engaging panel discussion focused on healthcare leadership. The primary discussion will be centered around leadership beyond the bedside. Healthcare offers a breadth of careers beyond the typical acute care setting; however, many people are not exposed to these roles until they have entered the workforce. We aim to unveil the many opportunities that students with a medical interest can potentially explore. Additionally, we will address what leadership looks like in a healthcare organization through a panel comprised of four executives from varying functional areas and a post-graduate fellowship program participant. An organizational development practitioner will moderate this panel and present customized questions based on experience level to the panel. Students will have the opportunity to participate through an interactive Q&A at the close of the session.

Living your Leadership Values
Based on research by Jim Kouszes and Berry Posner, this session will dive into the 1st Practice of Exemplary Leadership: Model the Way. Being believable and authentic as a leader creates credibility, the foundation of leadership. Cultivating authenticity and being our best selves begins with better understanding who we are and what matters to us. With an emphasis on leadership as an ongoing choice, not a designated position, students will participate in an activity that helps them illuminate their own personal values and will then brainstorm new ways to make sure they’re living their values every day. This session will be highly interactive and will include discussion, self-reflection, a video example, and activities.
